Antavo’s Wallet module provides a frictionless way to boost your loyalty program with offline experiences. Loyalty passes include a barcode or QR code for identification. Customers can download the passes on their mobile devices and use them to collect points and redeem their rewards in your offline stores or events.

Mobile passes can be used as customers’ loyalty membership cards, or coupons and tickets that they earn from your loyalty program. All you need is a POS system that enables sales associates to scan the barcode or QR code on the pass, which is stored in an app on the customer’s mobile device. 

Apple Passes are stored in customers’ Apple Wallets, which is only available for iOS. However Google Pay, which stores Google Passes, is available for both Android and iOS. You can choose to provide customers with only one type of pass, or both.

Pass types

With Antavo’s Passes module, you can set up three types of passes:

  • Membership pass
    The membership pass can be used as a digital loyalty card. It identifies the customer by their ID and lets them earn points in your physical stores by making purchases or checking in at an offline location. When the customer enrolls into the loyalty program we automatically send an email with a barcode or QR code that represents their unique customer ID. You can add the membership pass to the registration email sent by your  own email provider as well. The membership pass can also be displayed on the Loyalty Hub so customers can log in to find and download their own passes anytime.
  • Coupons
    Passes can also be used to reward customers with coupon delights that they can use to get discounts when making a purchase in your physical stores. There are two ways you can reward your customers with a discount coupon:

    1. Claimable rewards
      After customers spend their points on the Loyalty Hub to redeem rewards that you have previously added in the Rewards module, they will receive a reward claim email, sent by Antavo. The email includes a link to download their unique pass. You can use your email marketing provider to send the reward claim confirmation with the pass, just like the aforementioned registration email.
    2. Surprise and delight reward
      Unlike claimable rewards, instant rewards are not visible on the Loyalty Hub. Customers receive them automatically when specific conditions, that have already been defined in the Rule editor, are met. In this case, the automation flow needs to be set up to trigger your newsletter provider to send the coupon pass download link to your customers.
  • Event pass
    Event passes behave and work the same way as coupons, but function as guaranteed entry into a specified offline event you’re holding.

On the top edge of Apple Passes, coupons have a perforated edge, membership passes are flat, while event ticket passes have a small cutout.

Find the Wallet module’s configuration page by clicking on the ‘Modules’ item in the sidebar, and scrolling down to the ‘In-store’ module category.

Creating a new pass

Pass setup starts with the Pass Editor, which you can use to select the pass colors and relevant images, and enter text on the mobile passes. Build an unlimited number of pass designs to save and use later on any pass type..

The easy-to-use WYSIWYG editor helps you get an instant view of how your modifications affect the end result for both Apple and Google Passes. Use the selector on the top of the page to change between views and applicable settings.

To start building a new pass, click ‘Create new pass’ on the sidebar.


  • Select the type of pass you want to create
    Find information about each type in the Pass types section of this article
  • Name your pass
    You’ll later be able to identify the template by this name on the loyalty platform
  • Tick the checkbox to enable Apple Wallet
  • Tick the checkbox to enable Google Pay
  • Click ‘Select’ at the bottom of the page to continue




  • Choose a background color
  • Select a label color – available for Apple Passes only
    This will be the color of the label texts of the fields on the front of the pass, except for the primary fields. For Apple passes, the label for primary fields can be changed using the foreground color.
  • Select a foreground color – available for Apple Passes only
    This will be the color of all texts other than labels on the front of the pass.


  • Upload an icon
    The icon is displayed when a pass is shown on the lock screen. The icon should measure 29×29 points.
  • Upload your logo
    The logo image is displayed in the top left corner of the pass. The allotted space is 160×50 points, but we recommend using an even narrower image.
  • Upload the strip image – available for Apple Passes only
    The strip image is displayed under the logo and the header field, behind the primary fields. The image will be center-cropped if it is too large.

Click the ‘Next’ button on the bottom of the page to continue setting up your pass template.



Basic information

  • Add a description
    The description is visible on the back side of the Apple Pass


  • Select the type of code
    You can choose the barcode or QR code format.
  • Add the code content
    You can add general text, coupon codes for a specific reward, or a URL
  • Enter alternative text
    This text will appear under the code

While the description and the barcode settings will be applied to both providers’ passes, you’ll find a different configuration interface for Apple- and Google-specific pass fields, which can be used to provide personalized information to customers.

By clicking on the preview pass, you can flip it over to see the back side. Since space is limited on the front side, you need to be brief, however the back of the pass is scrollable, which allows you to add a great deal of extra information. The back fields are used to define helpful details like Terms of Use or customer service contact info. 

In general, an Apple pass can have up to 3 header fields, 1 primary field, up to 4 secondary fields, and up to 4 auxiliary fields, however the maximum number of combined secondary and auxiliary fields is 4. The number of back fields is unlimited.

Please note that the number of fields displayed on the pass also depends on the length of the text in each field. If the text is too long, some fields might not be displayed.

Each type of field has the following settings to define:

  • Label of the field
  • Value of the field
    In addition to general text, you can include expressions, for example the customer’s current level or number of points.
  • Message
    Enter the text for the notification which will appear on the customer’s screen when the field gets updated.

If you would like to remove a field, just click the dustbin icon in the corresponding field.


Google Pay Fields

  • Loyalty points balance
  • Secondary loyalty points balance
  • Customer name
  • Customer ID
  • Rewards tier

Please define the label and the displayed value of each field.

Once you’re satisfied with all of the content settings, click ‘Next’ at the bottom of the page. 



Before saving your newly created pass, you will be provided with a final preview of what  customers will see on their mobile phones. If you’d like to make changes, you can navigate back to any stage of the pass setup, however if you’re satisfied with the end result, click the ‘Create’ button on the bottom of the page.

Your new pass will immediately appear in the list on the ‘Passes’ page.

Selecting the membership pass

To use a pass template as the design of the membership pass, please navigate to the ‘Settings’ tab of the module configuration page and choose a template from the dropdown list.

Before you start using Apple Passes in your loyalty program, you must fill in the details of your Apple Developer Certificate.

  • Add your Team Identifier
  • Add your Pass Type Identifier
  • Add the name of your certificate
  • Add the password you specified when generating the certificate

Rewarding customers with coupon and event passes

Before assigning pass templates to coupon rewards, please make sure that you have coupon rewards already set up in the Rewards module. If you’re not sure how to create rewards in your loyalty program, please check out our Rewards module manual before you start setting up reward passes.

Please note that coupon and event passes can only be assigned to Coupon types of rewards. This means that both coupons and event rewards should be set up as Coupon types of rewards in the Reward editor.

Assign passes to rewards

  1. After you have created a coupon reward, navigate to the ‘Passes’ tab on the left sidebar
  2. Select the pass template to be assigned to the reward
  3. Click the ‘Save’ button

Use passes as instant rewards

Instead of spending their points to claim a reward, you can surprise your customers with benefits if they complete specific actions, by setting up a rule in Antavo’s Rule editor with a ‘Reward claim’ action. You can find how to set up an instant pass reward here.

Pass emails

Both the Membership pass and Reward pass email can be customized with Antavo’s Email editor, which you can find in the ‘Settings’ menu:

  • Navigate to the ‘Settings’ page of the Loyalty Management Platform
  • Click on ‘Emails’ on the left side of the page
  • Search for the ‘Membership pass email’ to customize the membership pass email, or the ‘Pass email’ to customize the reward pass email
  • Click on the hamburger button and select the ‘Edit’ option
  • Edit all the texts using our WYSIWYG editor by clicking on the content of the email
  • Use our built-in HTML and CSS editor for further customization

You can send a test email to yourself to see how the email will look from a loyalty member’s perspective. To do so, click the hamburger button on the ‘Emails’ page and select the ‘Test send’ option.

You can also use your email marketing provider to send passes to customers. In this case, you need to set up a rule in the Rules editor that triggers the email from your provider’s system.
